WTF
Cougar Kills Golden retriever, North Bend, WA
A cougar killed a fifteen year old Golden Retriever that was sleeping outside on a deck at 3:00 am, which leads me to ask, W.T.F was the dog doing sleeping outside at 3:00 am?
I get it, sometimes dogs especially older ones need a potty break in the middle of the night, been there, done that, but under no circumstances would I ever leave my dog outside and go back to bed!
What kind of idiot does that? Especially in an area where you KNOW wild animals live?
It’s like leaving the bank doors open when you know there are robbers in the area.
Ass clown.
WTF would you do?, Facebook
One of my friends sent me an e-mail and said, something like: look at the picture, read the caption and tell me what you think.
I don’t know about you, but it made my blood run cold and I felt sick.
Apparently she and I were getting the same vibe. She tracked the original poster down, got his name and address and called the authorities. I’m not sure if they picked the dirt bag up or not, but I can tell you he is a convicted felon and I know she did the right thing.
Cat goes to vet for flea bath and gets euthanized, Massachusetts
Holy cat, Batman! did you see this? The guy drops his cat off for a flea bath goes home to get his other cat (also in need of a flea bath) and comes back to find the vet has EUTHANIZED his cat.
Apparently in Massachusetts flea bath and euthanasia sound alike.
If you’re having anything done to your pet in Massachusetts, please make sure you read the form you are signing.
I don’t know about you, but I think it’s time to find a new vet.
Dog dies on United Airlines Flight, New York, NY
Personally, I would never bring my dog on a plane in the cargo hold, that’s just me. If we can’t drive to our destination with our pets, we don’t go.
But I know other people who have a different philosophy. However when you have a plane delayed on a hot runway, and the passengers in the plane are told to open their vent fans, wouldn’t you think someone would have half a brain thought to check on the animals in cargo?
The model was coldly told her pet had died and the poor dog’s body was left in the crate.
This is the second time United Airlines has made the W.T.F. post, I don’t know about you but I have no desire to fly United.
EVER.
Whoo Hoo
Beagle survives 70 foot fall from bridge, NJ
A poor little fearful beagle, previously abused gets spooked on her daily walk, slips her harness and runs. When someone stops to help her, she is so afraid she does the unthinkable. She jumps off the bridge.
I know, I know. I debated if it should be WTF or Whoo Hoo but as the dog survived the jump with only a bruised abdomen, I settled on Whoo Hoo.
Let’s hope her story helps educate people about fearful dogs.
Cruelty to pit bull nets 6 month jail term, Ft. Wayne, IN
It does my heart good to see the judicial system penalizing animal neglecters and abusers.
St. Louis police to dedicate police officer to animal crimes, St. Louis, MO
The article begins with this People who abuse animals often go on to commit crimes against people.
Can I get an amen!
It’s about time law enforcement started adding two plus two and getting four. Animals are just a starting point for many abusers who then go on to children and then spouses.
Catch them early I say!
Finally I saw this video of a little pig saving a baby goat, I dare you to watch this video and not smile. The pig is just so stinkin cute!
That’s Some Pig!, Fox News
Well that’s enough for me, do you have any news or anything to share?

Wow quite a list. 🙂
You are right about putting a pet in cargo. Putting a pet in cargo in the summer is a recipe for disaster. All you have to do is look at the restrictions/limitations to know that it is a dicey proposition. Depending on the circumstances, time of year, pet and how the airline does it, I cannot say that I would never ship my dog. But…I would definitely be wary. There are alternatives to ship a dog: airlines that only ship animals and alternatives other than flying. The problem is, if you have a dog that gets worked up when confined and then you add in heat, well that is how heat stroke can happen.
Now on the euthanasia story. It is such a shame and obviously there was a lack of communication. Monday when I was taking Thunder to the vet, there was a couple leaving their lab for possible acl repair. It was their first time at this clinic as they were referred by their own vet to the ortho vet. The guy was complaining to me about having to wait to drop off his dog. I countered, it is your first time here, the vet will want to talk to you before you just leave your dog. He insisted that he did not need to see the vet because he has had several conversations over the phone with the desk staff. (Why oh why must people involve me in their drama?) I left it at that, but I was thinking of the story of the poor cat. I did not ask, but I wondered if the clinic where the guy normally goes sees anywhere near the number of animals my clinic sees? While some may see 10 pets a day, the place I go may see 10 pets an hour. Whenever I have had to drop off for anything, I always have to see a vet to review what they are going to do to my pet. Sounds like an appropriate check to me. Some people are just in too much of a hurry.

I probably would not put my dog on a plane and especially not in cargo. At my last job another dog loving friend and I had dreams of a plane where your dogs would fly in crates next to your seats. There would be artificial areas where they could go to relieve themselves. That is how I would like to fly with my pets. 😀
The euthanasia story was sad as was the story you told of the man dropping off his pet. I think some people just aren’t as invested in their animals as others. Speaking only for myself, I want one on one time with my vet and expect their full attention and that they will address all my questions and concerns. I expect their number one priority is the welfare and well-being of my pet. If I didn’t have that confidence in my vet, I would not be using them. But that is just me.

What a week it has been huh?……
Jodi Stone says
One hell of a week, Deb.

Very sad stories.
My neighbors had a dog that they would let out at night and go back to bed and forget about her. Many times I would get up early and find her outside. Last time it happened the dog went missing for 2 days. I’m constantly arguing with her but it all falls on deaf ears. She tried to tell me that someone had stolen her Gia then decided they didn’t want her and turn her in to animal control. Yeah, right! You can’t fix stupid!
Jodi Stone says
Oh my goodness, I can’t imagine that! My yard is fenced in yet I’m still not naive enough to believe that something cannot jump a fence! The few times that one of the dogs has needed to go out during the night, I’ve waited on the porch for them. I admit to bringing a blanket and curling up in a chair to wait, but I would never go back to bed!
You are right, you can’t fix stupid. 🙂

Lots of very sad stories 🙁
My Mum doesn’t like the idea of putting me in the cargo hold of a plane – it’s such a shame they still can’t make pet travel safe!!
Wags to all
Your pal Snoopy 🙂
Jodi Stone says
I still have hope that someday they will make pet travel safe Snoopy. With more and more people calling for it, someone is bound to fill the need.
I’m glad mom keeps you from the cargo hold!!
Karen says
As a resident of St. Louis I would just like to echo the woo hoo for them! Yay!
Jodi Stone says
Amen Karen!! I love that they are being proactive with this issue and that people are beginning to see that violence upon animals can only lead to other violence.

I’ll no longer be saying “when pigs fly”, it will be ‘when pigs swim” from now on.
Jodi Stone says
Awe Al, wasn’t that just the cutest video? I fell in love with that pig. 🙂

So many awful stories this week… My heart goes out to the owners of the dog in the first one. In all likelihood that is where the dog just always slept and they probably thought nothing of it until the very worst happened. Even if this was the first time, we all make mistakes… It makes me very glad I don’t live in mountain lion territory. Coyote threats are bad enough!
The beagle story reminded me of Overtoun House in Scotland. There is a large bridge on the property and I believe there story goes that 10 dogs at different times owned by different people have jumped off the side of the bridge. Unfortunately, none of these dogs survived. It’s a very large mystery in the community regarding what would inspire these dogs to leap to their deaths. The mystery to me is why people would keep walking their dogs off-leash as they pass over.
Jodi Stone says
It gets really hard some weeks to write about the awfulness. I feel sad about the first dog too, but mostly because the dog had to sleep outside. 🙂
I have never heard the story of Overtoun House, I can’t imagine why a dog jumps off a bridge. I mean I understand it in a fearful dog, but like you question why people would continue to give their dogs the opportunity to jump.

Great, just what raw feeders need–someone *encouraging* the idea that raw food increases aggression. WTF, indeed.
Jodi Stone says
I was more worried that he was trying to give the dog a ‘taste for blood’ so he could train the dog for fighting. I never gave thought that people might think it made dogs aggressive.

I never read more than the headlines of sad stories. Does this make me a person who just tries to avoid reality? There is so much cruelty in the news, it just seems like the media loves to find these stories.
Jodi Stone says
I never used to either Jan, until I started my WTF post. Now I seem to read a lot of them. 🙁
Clowie says
What sad stories!
Jodi Stone says
I agree.
Toby says
Holy crap. Maybe I should be thankful that my peoples bathe me themselves, rather than complaining all the time. How scary. (and how awful for that family to lose a four-legger that way) That’s like those stories of a peoples going in to have a leg removed, and they take off an arm….
Jodi Stone says
Well I’m pretty sure that the one they call Donna checks out your vets pretty well Toby and yes, you should be thankful. 🙂
Yes, I’ve heard stories of people signing in for surgery and having the wrong kind. That’s kind of scary.
Tanya @ Mazzie Takes Manhattan says
I really hope that the ASPCA/law enforcement was able to track down the person that did that scary Facebook posting re the pit bull. And I’m with you in terms of flying a commercial airline with my dog in the cargo hold. I would NEVER do it. I’d drive cross country with her (which would be an epic pain in both of our a**es) before I’d risk her life and limb. I never understand how people think that’s OK since it’s basically the equivalent of tossing a toddler into a really LOUD cage with no climate control for hours on end. I feel so awful that this dog had to go through such a scary death. It breaks my heart, truly.
Misty Shores Chesapeakes says
That is so awful about the cat and I would quickly not only make a scene at the vets office but find a new vet.
Amazing that little beagle survived such a fall.
Finally the authorities are waking up and now if we can get the penalties for these crimes to be even harsher, let’s say you get what you give out, then maybe just maybe these poor excuses for human beings will get the message!
I read a blog recently about the same thing happening to a golden, may be the same one, here’s the link if you want to check it out http://beamakesthree.com/2012/09/20/united-airlines-killed-our-golden-retriever-bea/
