There are two kinds of pooping people.
The people who won’t poop unless they’re in their own home. (You know you know people like this.) They are the people who leave the party early because mother nature is calling.
I had a friend arrive extremely late to a bowling match once, what took you so long I asked.
She had to go home for something, her partner told me.
Oh, she had to drop a deuce?
Her partner laughed, yup.
She’d also run home in the middle of a work day if the urge came upon her.
In. The. Middle. Of. A. Work. Day.
To take a poop. Even though she could have used any number of rest rooms.
Then there are the people who really don’t care where they poop. They’ll poop in the bathroom at work, in a supermarket or a gas station bathroom, on the side of the road if need be, or behind a building.
The ones who come out of the bathroom at the party waving their arms saying, don’t go in there for a few minutes, musta been something I ate. Does anyone have a match?
While I’m normally not so bold to say hey don’t go in there, I definitely will find a place to go when I need to. (Remind me to share the pee story on the NY Thru way, that’s a classic.)
Yes there are definitely two different kinds of pooping styles.
I would like to take this a step farther and argue the point that dogs have different pooping styles too.
Sampson’s style is more like my friends. He goes a good 40 to 50 feet of the trail, hunches over and gives you the excuse me, do you mind, I’m trying to pinch a loaf here look.
Many times I’ve called over to him only to say, sorry dude, didn’t realize you were taking a poop.
I’ve mentioned before that some people have commented, Delilah is me in a dog’s body. We are both stubborn, strong-willed, persistent, resourceful and usually get what we want.
It’s no surprise to me then that Delilah has a similar pooping style to mine.
She will go wherever and whenever.
What do you mean sidewalks aren’t for pooping? Isn’t that why you carry poop bags? You sure as woof aren’t picking up garbage.
What? Oh pardon me, I didn’t realize you were going to walk right there, we are in the woods after all. Excuse me, while I crank a steamer.
Yes, I would say my dogs definitely have two different pooping styles.
Have you noticed your dog’s pooping style? Do you have a shy Sampson or a daring Delilah?
Margaret Popp says
Hey Jodi
i couldn’t resist commenting on this one, you had me laughing out loud. We had this discussion at work before. My dog, Chase, likes to go in the woods or bushes. But, if he can he wil poop downhill. He will have his butt at the top and the poop rolls down between his front paws. It is the funniest thing.
Jodi Stone says
Thanks Margaret, I got a bad case of the giggles writing it! He poops down hill? That cracks me up!
Marina Kanavaki says
Oh!!!!!!
Ours seeks lumps of branches or leaves… I guess she wants her privacy. It is also quite upsetting when passers by stop and stare. When something like that happens I just move in to block their view! Indiscreet people!
😆
Jodi Stone says
So she hides behind them? Then she is like Sampson. 🙂 That’s very nice of you to shield her from prying eyes. Unlike me who takes photos of my dogs doing their business! LOL
Marina Kanavaki says
Oh, but you are family! It’s not the same with a complete stranger prying!!!
🙂
Sheena Edwards says
I have a “mind ya own business Mo!”
Jodi Stone says
There you go! I thought Mo was a private kind of dog. 🙂
Sheena Edwards says
Private yes! But he gets in the box and circles and circles. I have to remind him that he is just pooping…..NOT LOOKING FOR AN APARTMENT!!
jet says
Hey Sampson, Hey Delilah, Jetty here. Hi Miss Jodi.
Mom is taking over since, uh… I find this a most sensitive topic…
Jetty is a pacer… back and forth ad nauseum for up to 5 minutes which in my terms feels like an hour because we’re usually under someone’s bedroom window! (don’t ask!)
JJ does a lovely pirouette after spiraling from wide circles to small. Her locations are proper, thank goodness. The only issue with JJ is that sometimes she shimmies forward up to 4 times to poop in parts, which makes scooping a real pain in the —!
Luckily, we get heavy rains in the tropics, which washes away most of the “evidence!”
Jodi Stone says
LOL Oh Jetty, a pacer eh? I’ve never seen a dog pace, but I can usually tell when Delilah is ready to go, while she does not do circle likes JJ does, she does have a tendency to move while she’s going. I have a pet name for her when she does this, it’s not nice. 🙁
Jen@MyBrownNewfies says
I shouldn’t of read this while I was eating my lunch! Not because poop is gross but because I was laughing so hard I almost choked on my chicken!
Believe it or not, Sherman and Leroy are both private poopers.Plunger, the Beagle can poop anywhere, anytime!
Jodi Stone says
My goal was to be funny, but not for anyone to choke! I was hysterical last night because I couldn’t remember the steamer bit. I asked my husband, how does the steamer thing go and then I got the giggles.
Kristine says
Hahahaha! I don’t even know what to say. Shiva isn’t very shy but she does prefer to go on the grass or just off the pathway. It’s very considerate of her, I think. She also will not go in her own yard unless in an emergency, and even then. She likes to keep her home turf poop-free. It’s one of her better qualities. 🙂
Jodi Stone says
Shiva does sound like she’s very considerate. I wish my dogs would go in one spot in the yard, it’s a big yard and so hard to keep free of poop. 🙁
Michelle says
Lmao!! I had to tell you that I’m pooping at work while reading this!!! Lol
Anyway. Foxy finds some sort of corner area in the yard, where she’ll back up & before doing her business, she’ll give me a Do you mind look. Then proceeds to bolt away, forgetting that I’m still holding the leash & trying to pick up her business!
Jodi Stone says
Did you take your shirt off? LMAO!
Does she kick dirt over it? Delilah has done that to me when I’ve bent down to pick it up, thankfully I’ve been quick. It would suck to get a face full of dirt when you were bent over picking up sh*t. 🙂
Toby says
Sampson HAS to hide in the woods, or else he’ll have his butt posted all over the internet like Delilah – whether he likes it, or not. It doesn’t matter what your pooping style is when one of your peoples is Jodi Stone and she’s carrying a camera.
Jodi Stone says
LOL Yes Toby, I’m a terrible dog mom for taking their pictures while they’re doing their business! 🙂 But it was funny, you had to admit that. 😉
Toby says
Why yes, yes it was. Especially since the photo wasn’t of me. (Or of my twin that someone might mistake as me on the interwebs.)
Misty Shores Chesapeakes says
You had me in stitches with this one! On the day we go training Cheyenne saves hers for my friends yard 🙂 The rest well they really haven’t shown me any sign of a preference but when you gotta go you gotta go!
Jodi Stone says
Thanks Misty, that was my goal. 🙂
Hawk aka BrownDo says
Hi Y’all,
Thanks so much for stoppin’ by for a visit. I’m so glad y’all could make it!
Hope y’all are havin’ a wonderful week.
BOL!!! My Human says me and my Chessie sis before me are always polite and go WELL off the trail! Even at home I try to go in my special “bathroom places”. I only recall once having an accident where my Human had to clean it up. So embarrassing!
Y’all come back now,
Hawk aka BrownDog
Jodi Stone says
I think that’s awesome Hawk, I wish my guys would go in the same spot, it would be much easier to clean up!
2 brown dawgs says
Poop sure seems to generate a lot of comments….lol. Our dogs go wherever, whenever. Hubby told me Freighter even did it right in the middle of one of the hunt tests. At least he held the bird!
Jodi Stone says
LMAO that really did make me laugh. Did he get a did not qualify? I know in an agility or rally ring that’s a big NO-NO.
2 brown dawgs says
Nope. In hunt tests they can poop or pee….lol.
dawn says
I can’t remember the last time I saw Havoc poop. He goes way down to the back of the yard somewhere. The other 3 just go, no matter what, no matter where. In fact if we are walking Ricochet will keep moving for about 5 feet so the poop is spaced out. Why would you want to make it easy for the human to pick up?
Jodi Stone says
LOL Ricochet is like Delilah, she walks while she’s going. I wonder why they do that?
Kirsten says
You crack me up Jodi! Been thinking about this, as the new foster has the runs and mimics Fozzie’s poop style. They both like to poop in small, runny segments over the course of about 5 feet. I’m trying to think of ways to make them poop in one discreet pile but it just doesn’t seem possible.
Lamar’s poops are a pooper picker-upper’s dream, in that they are almost always firm and nuggetlike. He does always have to search for the perfect spot, and sometimes it takes him a while before he knows he’s found that magic place. He also always likes to squat over a tall plant of some kind–so even his otherwise excellent poops are difficult to pick up because obscured by foliage. So you can imagine the fun I have scrambling after various forms of poop over the course of one of our walks.
I am a go-anywhere pooper, though I certainly prefer some spots to others.
Jodi Stone says
Don’t get me wrong, I PREFER my own bathroom but if it’s not available well…..I always say, “If you can’t hold it in your hand, you can’t hold it at all.” 🙂
My dog’s poops are usually easy to pick up, sometimes they are so dry it comes out like sand. Which is a result of the raw food.
I don’t think I could deal with the runny stuff, Delilah is a walker too.
Tanya @ Mazzie Takes Manhattan says
When you’re famous and someone asks which post/piece/work of yours resonated with me best, it will be this one. LOVE IT. TFM. Mazzie is more the “Daring Delilah” type. Honesty, I could talk about dog poo for days!
Jodi Stone says
If I ever get famous, I will be sure to refer the press to you. 😉
You would fit right into my inner circle, we talk poop. I mean serious poop. It’s natural, right?
Pamela says
OMD! If I told my husband I read this post all the way through he’d tell me I must really like you a lot. Because you definitely pushed some of my neuroses buttons here.
Let me just say that as we’re starting to look at sailboats to buy, my wish list has the head as far from the master suite as physically possible. And, on a 35 foot boat, that’s not too far. But I’ll take what I can get. 🙂
Jodi Stone says
Oh Pamela, I imagine that will be a task on a sailboat. 🙂 Best of luck to you with that!!
