Please note this post is not meant to make light of the deeds described here, only to make fun of, ridicule, bully and just plain beat the shit out of the idiots who commit these stupid acts.
The entire post was going to be devoted to my Canadian friends. Montreal to be exact.
Wicca the Pit Bull
If you’re on facebook you probably heard about Wicca, another Pit Bull euthanized for a incident where the owner states the dog did not bite, only grazed. It is a similar case to Lennox where the owner appealed but was rejected. Sadly Wicca was euthanized last Thursday.
What makes this case even worse, is the city is trying to pass a new law where a dog involved in a bite incident can be euthanized within 24 hours, leaving very little time for the dog’s owner to take any legal action.
To this I say, Montreal, WTF?
When did people lose all common sense? I know the old saying if common sense was common…. but come on! Pull your heads out of your asses and think about it. What causes a dog to bite? Why are the circumstances not taken into consideration?
Is there nothing more pressing going on in your community that you cannot focus on?
What if you were to spend your money say on fixing the economy? Instead of persecuting dogs because they look a certain way.
I thought Montreal’s stupidity was more than enough for a W.T.F. Wednesday post and then I saw this.
Rep. Steve King defends the right to watch dog fighting and this GOP Rep. Steve King Defends Dog Fighting, IOWA – Warning if you click on one of these links you will see the results of dog fighting.
Apparently Iowa’s representative King opposes an amendment to the farm bill, which he verbalized at a tele-townhall last week.
I could go on a rant right here and call Mr. King every name under the sun, but if I cannot articulate my words and be concise in my criticism than I am just as ignorant as he is.
I’m just going to quote Mr. King here, “It’s wrong to rate animals above human beings,” he told the questioner. To make his point, King argued that “there’s something wrong” for society to make it a “federal crime to watch animals fight” but “it’s not a federal crime to induce somebody to watch people fighting.”
Let me explain the difference to you assbag. (Ok, sometimes articulation is over-rated.)
People who CHOOSE to fight do so of THEIR OWN FREE WILL. They know full well the risks involved in fighting and take those risks willingly.
Unlike dogs, bears and roosters who are starved, tortured and tormented oh and did I forget, EXECUTED when they lose.
It really makes me wonder where we are headed as a society when our elected officials have this kind of mentality.
Complaining doesn’t work.
You can write as many letters and e-mails as you want, you can call every day, every five minutes even, sign as many petitions as you can but unless you have your representative’s cell phone number or can schedule a face to face, the reality is your representative won’t hear your words. An admin in his office is writing down your comments and generalizing them with her weekly reports.
Yes Mr. King you had 52 people call and complain about your comment regarding dog fighting.
Thank you Susan, duly noted.
Real change.
Just because your congressman/representative isn’t reading your e-mails doesn’t mean you CAN’T make a difference.
We live in the world of social media. You can blog it, tweet it, facebook, google+, pin it, the possibilities are endless. The point is to keep these critical animal issues in the spotlight. Send information to your local news networks, ask them to cover the stories.
Shine the light on the ignorance associated with BSL and dog fighting.
Oh and if you live in Iowa, your voice is heard at the polls.
It’s the only way.
Donna and the Dogs says
I don’t know which story is sadder, or makes me angrier. How can anyone support dog fighting? What is wrong with some people?
Jodi Stone says
It makes me so sad Donna. I wish I knew. Perhaps Rep. King needs a Bully Beatdown. Have you seen that show on MTV? LOL
Donna and the Dogs says
I haven’t seen it, but judging by the title, it sounds just perfect. 🙂
Laura H says
VERY WELL SAID . . . and I’m DEFINITELY sharing! GRRRRRRRRRRRR . . . and yes, I AM YELLING!!!!!
Jodi Stone says
It’s very frustrating Laura and I don’t mind you yelling. 🙂
marina kanavaki says
…and so the tragedy continues after Lennox! What a shame for humanity.
I will continue sharing, signing and contribute in any way I can…
Thank you for bringing it up.
Jodi Stone says
We lost the Lennox and Wicca battle Marina, but the BSL war is still raging. Let’s gather our armies and fight this!
Thank you for sharing, it will help and we will beat this common enemy!
Doggy's Style says
People like this is the same that support the turtle thing in Indiana, hard to understand but there you go, seems like the world is full of them.
Jodi Stone says
What a sad place we are leaving for future generations.
Jan says
I may be wrong, but I think my calls to my representative’s office have had a big effect on getting them to pay attention to me. I like to think I have had an influence on them by joining and encouraging others.
Jodi Stone says
And I would like to hope YOU are right Jan. It should make a difference.
Tanya @ Mazzie Takes Manhattan says
And to think that I once liked Montreal (particularly, its special style of bagels)…. I’ll never go there again and spend a penny. The new law being proposed is beyond ridiculous. And I wish I could say I was surprised that people with the low level of brainpower like Rep. Steve King from IA manage not only to get elected, but stay in office!
Jodi Stone says
I’ve never had a desire to go to Montreal, but now I definitely don’t! I’ll have to take you word on the bagels. 🙂 It is scary ridiculous. Your dog can bite a dog defending itself at the dog park and it can be seized and euthanized within 24 hours!! There is something beyond wrong in this.
Kristine says
I saw the second story on Facebook last night and I had a hard time believing anyone could be that far gone. Dog fighting – any form animal fighting as entertainment – should not be a political issue. It’s just wrong. Morally. No matter what your party affiliation. I have a feeling this Mr. King isn’t going to be in his position much longer as a result. At least, I hope he won’t.
Jodi Stone says
I agree 150% Kristine and I hope you are right and he loses his seat over this. I can’t believe a person with a brain would be able to compare dog fighting to human fighting. Have we learned nothing from the Michael Vick debacle?
2browndawgs says
OK why was Wicca even in a position that the alleged bites occurred? Hello people if you have a pit bull, keep it under control at all times.
I know you don’t want to hear this, but Rep King’s remarks are not all wrong if you look at what he actually said without all of the demagoguery. I detest dog fighting but he is right, dogs or any animals, are not above people as HSUS keeps trying to assert. And why was the crime of dog fighting stuck in the farm bill anyway? I took his comments to be making larger points.
Jodi Stone says
I don’t know the whole Wicca story, only what I read on facebook. There was an article on North Country Gazette that I had linked too but for some reason when I went to post I could no longer access the link. I think the woman who complained was wearing a head covering but I can’t say with certainty.
As for Rep King, you are right that dogs or animals are not above people except that people can choose to fight, where an animal is forced more than likely with cruelty and many times ending in death.
He may have been making a larger point, but IMO it was the wrong way to go about it.
BTW, I was looking forward to this comment because I knew we would stand on opposite sides. 🙂
2browndawgs says
I am not exactly on the opposite side, but I listened to his comment and I think people are reading a lot into it that wasn’t there. Not in that comment at least.
As for people choosing to fight, sometimes the monetary inducement doesn’t leave much choice. It is not like they are drawing fighters from the Hamptons.

The world is full of terrible people, and somehow, a lot of them ended up in power.
I’m not entirely sure what kinds of books you read, but Sheri S. Tepper’s “The Companions” might be worth a read, if you like sci-fi/fantasy type novels. It has an interesting explanation of the terrible people that kind of makes me wonder if maybe the author isn’t more in the know than the rest of the world. And dogs, lots of dogs.
Jodi Stone says
Thanks Lexy, I’ll add that to my list. Mind you it’s a very long list. 🙂 Yes somehow terrible people seem to end up in power.
dogdaz says
I am with you Jodi. And though sometimes I feel powerless, we can not stop making people aware of many the injustices to the one’s that can not speak for themselves. So many states are going crazy over pit bulls I think because they are trying to deflect the real issues, that they themselves created, like poor economies and extreme poverty. Someone must speak for the ‘under’ dog. Keep up the good work.
Jodi Stone says
Exactly! I really believe we can make a difference, it doesn’t always seem like it is as quick as we would like, but we can do it!

I am becoming a big fan of WTF Wednesday Jodi. Keep em’ coming!
