I’m in that Mentalpause phase of my life.
If you haven’t experienced this yet, enjoy it while it lasts.
If you’re like me though, you will know exactly what I mean when I say, I’m constantly misplacing things.
There are four things I can never find in my house
1) Cell phone
2) Camera
3) Dog collars
4) Treat bag
No I didn’t forget the keys, I remedied that by putting a bowl close by the door and MOST days, that’s where the keys go.
In order to make my life easier I try to always put things in the same spot so they are readily available for future use. I’ve taken to setting the dog’s collars on a little shelf in the kitchen and the treat bag I hang inside the food closet.
Until I don’t.
Saturday morning I couldn’t find Sampson’s walking collar or the treat bag. I remembered using both the day before but couldn’t remember where I’d put them.
The collar was the bigger mystery, because I figured either Delilah or Bob had found the treat bag, but a quick search of the house before our walk turned up nothing. 🙁
I do have nice collars for Sampson and Delilah that I use when they are going to daycare or to the vets, etc. But the old buckle collar is what we use for walking in the woods.
I had no choice, I broke out the nice collar.
When we came back from our walk I went on the hunt for the missing items. I remembered seeing the buckle collar on Friday because I had removed his tag holder so I could add his newest town registration tag to it. I remembered standing right at the counter using the pliers to try and wrench the old one off.
I looked down at the counter and the pliers were still sitting there, so I opened the drawer.
Viola, there was the collar.
The only thing left missing was the treat bag.
Delilah tends to be a creature of habit, when she gets a hold of something she’s not supposed to have she takes it to one of three places.
1) Her crate turned up empty.
2) The dog bed in the bedroom turned up empty.
3) The rug in the living room had no evidence of the treat bag, but when I lifted my eyes up, I found it sitting next to the dog’s couch.
Here’s a picture of what it looks like now.
As you can see from the photo, the treat bag had not a speck of treats left in it and yes, it is inside out which is exactly how I found it. You may also notice it now has quite a few holes in it.
I’m pretty sure I can rule out Bob. Notice his nonchalance in the background. 🙂
What kind of Mischief have you been up to?

deb phelps says
I was going to ask who BOB was until the end…(cat) lol must have been BOB jodi…lmao
Jodi Stone says
Bob, Bob Stone. That’s what we call him. LOL
2browndawgs says
LOL Right or wrong, I immediately suspected dear sweet Delilah.
Jodi Stone says
Well I did too, but when I couldn’t find it I thought…..maybe the cat did it! LOL
kolytyi says
It must have been a mouse, scent by Delilah, eaten up by Bob. There is no other possible explanation.
Jodi Stone says
LOL Somehow it always falls to Delilah!
Frankie Furter and Ernie says
OH YES…. Mental Paws… it makes life SUCH an ADVENTURE.
Jodi Stone says
Doesn’t it just? I keep telling my boss, I really use to have a brain! LOL
Jen says
I don’t know, I think you might have a mouse in the house:)
Jodi Stone says
That wouldn’t surprise me at all. LOL
shoes says
I love the expression on Delilah’s face it is as if she is waiting for a treat from the treat bag, no sign of guilt on that cute face. 🙂
Jodi Stone says
No, she has no guilt. She thinks because she is sitting she can have a treat. LOL
Donna and the Dogs says
Oh Delilah. Guess you were hungry, huh? Sorry you’ve gotta get another treat bag Jodi. Maybe you buy a spare too. 🙂
Jodi Stone says
I will have to buy a spare! Right now it is still functional, so I will continue to use it. But when I do buy a new one, I will buy a second just in case. :0
Married with Dawgs says
hehe….Hurley has licked the treat bag several times but hasn’t punctured it yet. He prefers to save his hole chewing ways for pants pockets. In fact, today is pants pocket repair day in our house! 🙂
Jodi Stone says
She was like Jack Sprat and his wife, she licked it clean! LOL
Gina@loves dogs says
Ah, I hear you. Misplacing things is my specialty. I spend a half hour trying to find what I’m looking for and the other half hour trying to remember what I was looking for.
Jodi Stone says
Oh I hate when that happens!! Not just looking but trying to remember. LOL
Al says
Love the term “mentalpause” hadn’t heard that before. I think there’s a lot of that going around. The picture of Delilah is priceless.
I was gone for a while but I’m now caught up on your blogs.
Jodi Stone says
Thanks Al, I’m not sure where I heard it. But I certainly can’t take credit for it. I hope you enjoyed your vacation.
Jan says
I have this scenario where the Grim Reaper comes to take me away. I ask for just the time i spent looking for lost things before I have to go. He agrees, and I spend many more years living (and misplacing things).
Jodi Stone says
So is it a good dream or a bad dream? LOL
Bassetmomma says
Ha!Ha! Innocent until proven guilty!
Jodi Stone says
It’s usually her! LOL
Mazzie @ Mazzie Takes Manhattan says
Nice work Delilah!!!!
Jodi Stone says
Thank you, I was very proud of her.
Anna says
This stuff happens to me often, my memory has never been good… and if it ever was I forgot when that was. In anycase I have quite a few collars and leashes and treats etc… and most of them reside on top of Wyatt’s crate. I just bought two new baskets to keep these things in yesterday at the dollar store. Maybe I will take a picture of our mess of collars and leashes so you can see how unorganized it is. I guess it works because I have so many to pick from, sad huh.
Look up CanineDesign on Etsy… it is a fellow Vizsla owner who makes them and they are wonderfully priced… helped me justify having several collars. 😉

Jodi Stone says
Anna you are too young for this to be happening! LOL I have a hook by the door where the leashes go and the collars are on the shelf. Sampson currently has three and Delilah has four. I have to put them up when my granddaughter is over, she loves to play with them and when she misplaces them….well it’s way worse than when I do! I will check out your friend’s site. 🙂
Long Life Cats and Dogs says
I say “Yah” to the madness – makes me feel less alone!
Jodi Stone says
LOL some day I might just find my mind…..
Colby says
I think that’s the I’m innocent look 🙂 I misplace things all the time too, but when the dogs are moving stuff around the house it makes it even worse. Every once in a while Linus likes to move my slippers to a new location. At least he stopped chewing the remotes and cell phones.
Happy Monday!
Colby
Jodi Stone says
OMG I don’t know if I could take it if she chewed remotes or cell phones! LOL her favorite things are food wrappers, tissues, napkins and dryer sheets. 🙂
Rama's Mama says
Hi there! New follower here from the Monday Mischief Blog Hop! We are now following you via email and twitter! When you get a chance, stop by and return the follow! http://raisingrama.blogspot.com/
Jodi Stone says
Welcome and thanks for stopping by. I added your blog to my googlereader!
Pamela Webster (@S_Wagging) says
So you tell me that my husband is going through menopause and that’s why he continually misplaces things? I think I’ll keep that new to myself. 🙂
Thank goodness for treat bags. Back when I was using my pockets, Agatha made me pay the price for not putting my coat behind locked closet doors. She ate the pockets out of every piece of clothing that smelled like treats! 🙂
So Delilah’s not alone in making mischief.
Jodi Stone says
Well I can’t say with certainty that Mike is going through menopause but I can tell you they do go through it!
Oh I’m glad that I don’t keep the treats in my pockets, you are not the first person who has told me that!
Julie says
I feel your pain – we have a hook by the kitchen door for my purse and Cali’s collar and leash. I often misplace my phone and hubby has to call it so I can track it down. 🙂 I don’t think Delilah is even trying to look innocent . .her look almost says “you’re the one that left it out!”.
Jodi Stone says
Been there, done that! LOL And you are right, I hold the full responsibility for this mischief. I should have put the bag away.
snoopys@snoopysdogblog says
Hey Jodi,
Are you really sure you can rule out Bob? Just sayin’ – Tee Hee
Great job ‘whoever’ 🙂
Wags to all
Your pal Snoopy 🙂
Jodi Stone says
LOL Snoopy! I guess it could have been Bob, but my odds are on the chocolate girl. 🙂
Georgia Little Pea says
Haha! I feel for you. I’m not just on mental pause, I’m on mental stop some days. More often than I’ll ever admit to The Other Half!
Jodi Stone says
Mental stop doesn’t sound as good! LOL
Bassas Blog says
Hahahaha! If dogs could talk! 🙂
Jodi Stone says
In Sampson’s case I wish he could talk! In Delilah’s I’m afraid she and I would be having screaming matches. Similar to raising my girls….LOL
Misty Shores Chesapeakes says
You always say hubby so I thought Bob was him and you were using his name, I see now who Bob is LOL
Are you sure it isn’t mice, I mean did you actually see Delilah do that…Delilah I think you should get a good attorney because it seems to me this evidence is just circumstantial 🙂
I’m glad to know I am not alone in the misplacing things and whats worse is when you are looking for it and it is right in front of you…or is that just me 😉
Jodi Stone says
LOL Misty, Hubby’s name is Chet. I don’t know why I decided to stop using his name in the blog, I did in the beginning. I think I was trying to give him some anonymity for when the blog becomes famous. 😉
No I didn’t actually see Delilah do it, so there is still a very small chance that it wasn’t her, but I don’t hold out much hope with that! LOL
Oh yes, I’ve found stuff right in front of my face before. LOL or I hate when I think of something I need to locate just before bed, if I don’t put in a search immediately I will obsess over it all night….yikes. There needs to be a support group for this. LOL
Mary Ann says
Our dog Music used to find left over food in my work bag and she used to rip my lunchbags apart! She could find leftover cookies in backpacks and everything! Such a great hunting dog! Couldn’t leave anything laying around!
Jodi Stone says
Did Music ever get anything bad? Once Delilah went in my bag and took out a baggie full of ham (back when I still ate pork) she literally was trying to swallow the bag. That was scary!
Mary Ann says
No, she didn’t, thank goodness.
Basil says
She was just help out…she wanted to make sure all the noms in the treat bag are regularly updated with new ones!!
Jodi Stone says
That’s a really valid point. Since I added liverwurst, the treats haven’t been rotated out as frequently. You may just be on to something there. Thanks for stopping by!
Flo says
Hee hee. I’m not sure that it wasn’t Bob. 🙂 He looks just a bit TOO nonchalant. I have to phone my mobile quite often just to find out where it is. That of course leads to the excitement of seeing that I have a missed call and then realising that was me! Duh.
Jodi Stone says
I’m not ENTIRELY certain it WASN’T Bob, he has gone up on counter and eaten some hot dog rolls….
LOL about the cell phone, I’ve had to call too, but don’t get excited about the missed call. Sometimes I call my cell phone/work phone/or home phone to remind myself about something I need to remember.
peggyspetplace says
I can relate to the mental pause stuff, lol. Keys are the worst. I always put mine in my pocketbook, which hangs on a hook in the hall….so why aren’t they there half the time, if I “always” put them where they belong?? hmmmm. Sorry about the treat bag!
Jodi Stone says
I’m usually pretty good with the keys. The bowl by the door has really helped with that! I do occasionally find them in my purse or pocket, but most times they are in the bowl. 🙂
Mel says
I am SO glad I am not the only one going through this. Twice (not once) I have accidently thrown my keys in the trash while tossing something out, not realizing I had my keys in my hand too. Can you imagine the chaos of a crazy woman running through the house trying to find her keys so she can get to work before noon? I don’t have to imagine. 🙂
I also leave things in the same place for the same reason, except when I toss the keys in the trash.
Treat bag? That’s nothin’! We’re standing at a total of 2 bags of hamburger/hot dog buns (a total of 12 buns) and 1/2 a garlic bread loaf.
These dogs. 🙂
Adventureweiner (@Adventureweiner) says
Well, you can rest easy that YOU didn’t misplace it 🙂
