Every night around 9:00 pm, the dogs get their Kongs that have been stuffed with fruit and yogurt and then frozen.
I prefer to keep the dogs separated because one of them can be greedy and usually finishes before the other. (Two guesses, the first one doesn’t count.) 🙂
Delilah gets hers in the living room and Sampson gets his on our bed in the bedroom. I usually lay a towel down for Sampson since he’s on the bed covers.
Last night Delilah got her treat and as usual ran into the living room, Sampson was already on the couch. He’s usually on the couch but when I go in with his Kong he will reluctantly rise and follow me into the bedroom.
I brought his Kong out to the living room and asked “Do you want your treat?”
He wagged his tail and gave me his best puppy dog eyes.
I said, “Ok, you wait here and I’ll go get your towel.”
Do you know he did? It was like he understood exactly what I said!
I came out with his towel and he wagged his tail and smiled at me.
Do you indulge your pets? If so, how?

Hi Chuck and the Collies, thanks for dropping by. I had left comments a while back (they were about Trevor and how he was doing) and I never saw them show up. Thanks for stopping by, I’m adding you to my e-mail contacts so if that ever happens again I will drop you a line.
I’ve found it happened a couple of times with different wordpress blogs and usually once they’ve been approved it doesn’t happen again! Hope all is well in your neck of the woods!

Hi Jodi!
Sorry about that. I dont always check the spam folder so it probably slipped by. Trevor is still with us and seems to have had a couple of days of improvements. But, its only a brief turnaround for old age is taking its toll. He is comfortable and happy… being a brat today… but his energy and stamina are showing his age and he sleeps a lot. We keep him comfortable and wait on him hand and foot and let him know how much he is loved. Its just a matter of time and while heartbreaking I am thankful to God for each day I get to have with him… thank you so much for commenting and we will keep you updated…
God Bless You!

I think it’s wonderful that you are giving him as much time as possible. It is sad as we watch old age take our parents but for me it is even harder to watch it in the pets. 🙁 I’m glad he is comfortable and I too would be grateful for every moment.

I’m always amazed at the words dogs understand. I’m equally amazed at the way they pretend they don’t understand.
Jodi Stone says
I think they really do understand a lot more than most of us think they do. They also might pick and choose the words they acknowledge. I mean they haven’t lived with us this long without absorbing something!
Nancy K. (and HERO) says
We don’t get indulged NEARLY enough! In fact, I think I’m gonna leave the computer tuned to your post so that Mom sees it first thing in the morning. Maybe she’ll get the hint!
😉
HERO
Jodi Stone says
That’s a pretty smart move on your part Hero! I believe it’s called ‘subliminal messaging’ it just puts the idea in mom’s head so she thinks it’s her own. 🙂
Georgia Little Pea says
That treat sounds yummy. I want some now.
Jodi Stone says
The dogs love it. Usually it is stuffed with pineapples and pears, with a little yogurt on the top. But sometimes I’ll throw in bananas, or watermelon or even peaches. You should talk your mom into letting you try one. 🙂

Very cute. He knows the routine. 🙂
Jodi Stone says
He’s a spoiled boy. 🙂
Jen says
Wow! Sampson gets to eat on the bed? Now that is one lucky dog! I’m not even allowed to eat in bed:)
Jodi Stone says
LOL it’s your bed, you can eat there if you want to! I put the towel down though because with all his licking he sometimes leaves a wet spot. Ewww…
Kari says
I dont think there isnt one thing I do that doesnt induldge Haylie 🙂 hahahah actually im just learning to indulge her. I was so use to catering to Fred. I guess one thing ive always done is that when i get home from work I take their collars off until I leave again. I think they like the break from wearing collars. Ive done it every day for about 2 years lol.
yup im the crazy dog lady!
Jodi Stone says
I don’t think you are Kari, you just love them and that’s good. My guys have little tiny ‘show’ collars with an ID tag, they wear those most of the time in the house and I put their traditional collars on when we leave the yard. I like that extra security of having something to grab or a way to contact me if for some reason they get out of the yard. 🙂 Indulge her, she deserves it.

You can never love too much! 🙂

I agree Bassa!!
Mazzie @ Mazzie Takes Manhattan says
How adorable that he knows Kong time means towel time as well! And that’s such a great idea to put fruit/yogurt in a Kong and toss it in the freezer. I do that with nut butters and food, but the idea of fruit never crossed my mind and I think Mazzie would love it. Thanks so much for the great idea!
And re indulging Mazzie, I could go on and on, but what immediately comes to find is the fact that I give her her vitamins and supplements by hand every morning and night with nut butter, followed by a brown rice cake (which she loves) so that the inside of her mouth isn’t too sticky. I know, I know…. I’m a complete nut, but it’s all for the love of dog.
Jodi says
Oh he knows many things. LOL I think the fruit in the Kong is better than a lot of other treats I could give them. You should try one with Mazzie and see if she likes it. 🙂
I don’t think you’re a nut at all. I love to hear people pampering their pets, they all deserve it.
Kristine says
Who can resist sweet Sampson’s adorable face? He is just such a kind soul and deserves all the pampering in the world just for that reason alone.
I try not to indulge my dog overmuch because we would like to one day have a polite dog in our home. However, she doesn’t like to lay on the couch unless there is a blanket. And she only likes to lay on a blanket if it isn’t smoothed out for her. So if I see her looking longingly at her spot on the couch, I will pretty much always either straighten the blanket that is already there for her or get a fresh one from the closet and lay it down. She always jumps right up and curls into the corner. If that’s indulging her, I guess I am guilty too!
Jodi says
He is a good boy Kristine and I love pampering him!
I think it’s sweet that you indulge her wish for a fresh blanket Kristine. I have to say that Sampson is pampered beyond measure and he is a very well behaved dog.
But then there is the flip side of the coin, Delilah is pampered as well and I’m not sure anyone who’s every seen her surfing a table for food, well behaved. 🙂

Hey Guys,
My Dad says my Mum totally spoils me, I have to disagree!! Tee Hee
I mean, I’m not even allowed on the sofa, if she was spoiling me she’d at least give me that privilege, right? 🙂
I hope you’re having a fun day,
Your pal Snoopy 🙂
Jodi says
Man Snoopy, that stinks! Not even if there is a blanket on the couch? I would sure let you up on my couch. Don’t tell me your mom doesn’t let you on the bed either!
Donna and the Dogs says
Awww…I’m sure he DID understand you. I love, love, LOVE that pic of his smile. 🙂
Jodi says
I swear he does Donna, I would swear it on my life.
dogdaz says
Absolutely understood you! Great picture of a happy dog and a lucky one too. Yogurt and berries – oh my. We are a big peanut butter house. The dogs get a hollow marrow bone with a tsp of pb after their Omega 3’s in the AM (while I am eating mine), and then they usually get something to chew on after dinner. How long does the frozen treat last?
Jodi says
It depends on how long it’s actually in the freezer but usually 10 to 20 minutes. Delilah is usually done first but she goes at it with gusto! LOL Sampson sometimes gets tired and waits for one of us to help. 🙂
I try and stay away from the pb because of the high fat content, but I don’t a tsp would be bad. 🙂 It sounds like some puppies are spoiled at your house too. 🙂
Misty Shores Chesapeakes says
Hi Jodi, I’ve been out of the loop for a while and started doing some catch up reading through some of your posts and this picture of Sampson made me stop and smile.
Yes indeedy I indulge my babies, they are here for such a short time so I want to make sure it is the best time! 🙂 🙂 🙂
Jodi says
Thanks Misty! And welcome back, I’ve missed you! I had no doubt you would be indulging those sweet babies of yours. 🙂
