I always thought it would be cool to have a skylight in my bedroom, until I actually had one.
On those days when Mr. Sun is up well before he should be, everyone else in the room is up as well.
While the sound of raining drumming on the glass doesn’t bother me, it keeps Hubby awake.
For the first three years we lived here, we talked about purchasing some kind of blind to cover the window. But they’re very expensive and any time that kind of funding was available it seemed something more important came up.
Finally last year in desperation, I designed a type of skylight covering myself. (No, I can’t show you because Hubby says I should patent it.)
Did I forget to mention there’s a skylight in the bathroom attached to our bedroom as well?
Ooops, yes there is. But this skylight does not have a covering 1) because I wasn’t that ambitious and 2) the sun does not shine directly in our eyes when we are trying to sleep. Besides, I usually try to shut the bathroom door at night.
But sometimes I forget, or Hubby goes in there after me and doesn’t close the door. Yes, I’m going with that. Hubby does not close the door.
This was the case this morning, somehow the bathroom door was left open. The weatherman had predicted a ‘Wintery Mix’ for last night/this morning and lo and behold, for one magic moment in his life he guessed right. So while Mr. Sun rose, he didn’t shine because he was blocked by clouds.
Still as night gave way to early morning and dawn crept over the horizon, a vibrant, always vigilant chocolate lab looked up sleepily and saw something move on the side of the bed.
Ever the protector, she stood up and growled, which is when I opened my eyes and caught her…
growling at her shadow.

I have always enjoyed skylights too, but I totally can see where a cover would be nice too. When I do get to sleep in, usually it is the sun that finally wakes me… that is when it’s not my brain who is still on work hours. Our dogs are crated in the family room so they don’t have a chance to wake us up, and honestly sleep in as long as we require. Luna won’t even go outside to pee before 10 AM most days. Weird I know.

I have one weekend day to sleep in and it is usually Sunday, unless like you, my brain refuses to cooperate.
When Sampson was smaller he was much like Luna in the respect that he would sleep in late, Delilah is an early riser and I suspect if she was in her crate in the living room she would be making some noise.
She’s a very persistent and demanding dog. 🙂 I hope you got to sleep in this morning.

Great storytelling, Jodi. You left me with a big smile on my face at the end. 🙂

Thank you Pamela, I’m glad you enjoyed the story. It put a smile on my face when it happened. 🙂
Dogs really are silly sometimes.

You can’t be sure it was a shadow. It could have been an evil presence detected only by dogs that had disguised itself as a shadow.
Jodi Stone says
You might be right Jan! I guess I’m lucky I have Delilah to keep watch!! 😉

Hope you’re having a fun weekend,
Your pal Snoopy 🙂

Sometimes those shadows just sneak up on you Snoopy. 🙂 Have a good rest of your weekend.

Ha ha ha! That’s great. Hey, you never know what those Shadows might be up to!

I’m telling you, if I have to be woken up at 6:15 on a Saturday morning, it’s with a smile on my face. 🙂

I can see where having a skylight in the bedroom could be troublesome, especially when Mr. Shadow is around.
Jodi Stone says
Troublesome indeed, especially with Miss Delilah around. 🙂

Haha Delilah is so silly! Of course I could see Storm doing the exact same thing!
Jodi Stone says
I think they are somehow related. 🙂

Too funny! Our puppy Honey did something sort of similar recently, she went hysterical barking at a dog on our flat screen tv, the [very big] dog was barking and it was very close to the camera so it was like a huge dog suddenly appeared in our living room barking at the puppy. She almost peed herself, soooo funny.
I had a skylight once in the bedroom [hated it.] I covered it with a room darkening roman shade [kind of like a venetian or balloon shade] with an extra long cord wrapped to a cleat on the wall within my reach. Curious what You did!
