It started snowing here late this morning. I figured by the time I got home from work the snow might be too deep, so I decided to go home on lunch and give the dogs a half hour walk.
I have to say walking in the woods with the dogs during a snow fall rates in my top ten favorite things to do.
I love how the only sounds I hear are the squeaking of the snow under my boots and the jingle of the dog’s tags clinking against their collars as they run.
They stop. Ears up, listening. Then noses to the ground, they are off and running again.

My dogs are sooooo jealous. At least Toby and Leah are. Meadow not so much. For that matter, I’m with Meadow…I usually like the snow, but we’ve been so spoiled this year that I’m ready for spring.
Jodi Stone says
We would love to have Toby and Leah come along, and bring Miss Meadow if you’d like. There is just something so peaceful being out there with the dogs.

We had a slushy snow fall that started here last night and continued on this morning. Today, after getting home from work, Lila and I walked around the park, and Lila got to stick her paws into some really cold puddles. She was also sniffing around for little critters, but she didn’t find any. The thing about getting snow this time of year is that it won’t last very long!
I’m glad you all got to enjoy the snow too.
Jodi Stone says
Ours turned pretty slushy on the roads, then it rained and now it is snowing again.
It’s nice that Lila likes the snow, I know some dogs don’t care much for it, my guys are happy though as long as we are walking. 🙂

We got tons of RAIN.
YOU have very lucky dogs.
😉
Jodi Stone says
Thanks Nancy, but I think I’m the lucky one!! RAIN huh? Well they don’t mind hiking in that either. 🙂

Wonderful description Jodi!
Jodi Stone says
Thanks Bassa, it wasn’t quite as long as I wanted it to be, but it sounded ok to me.

I am quite envious of you taking their dogs for walks in the snow. It looks lovely and I can imagine how peaceful it must be. Sigh. 🙂 It looks as though the dogs just love the adventure too.
Jodi Stone says
They love, love, love hiking in the woods! I’m quite envious of you and Flo too, you look like you have some nice hiking areas out there.
So are you saying you NEVER get snow?
Flo says
Snow??? We get the warm clothes out when the temperature drops below 20 degrees C (70F). And yes, I am serious. 🙂
Frankie Furter and Ernie says
It does sound different with snow on the ground doesn’t it?
Jodi Stone says
It does. Everything is muted, sort of like God hit the pause button. 🙂

I love that, too – the silence of snowfall is so peaceful, all the better enjoyed with a few happy puppies 🙂
Jodi Stone says
Absolutely! I’m not a scientist but I think something about the density of the snow makes everything seem quieter.
Jan says
That almost makes me wish we lived in a climate where it snowed.
Well, not really…
Jodi Stone says
LOL Jan, sometimes a change in weather is nice. But it gets old fast.
Helen P. (Whiskered Paintings) says
Those are some nice orange coats! It is supposed to snow tonight, but I want it to stay 50 degrees! 🙁
Jodi Stone says
I am in agreement with you! We are supposed to be back in the 60’s next week. Geesh, I wish it would make up its mind!

Love the fancy reflective vests!
I love walking in the snow as well, especially at night or in the early morning when all is quiet. It’s just too bad it has to be so dang cold!
Jodi Stone says
They are some cheap vests Hubby picked up at Cabela’s. I think we will have to invest in some that are of better quality because they are losing their ability to stick with the velcro, which means the vests turn and twist and sometimes fall off.
I find that I normally don’t get cold walking in the snow, but I have flannel pants. I usually only wear a three season jacket, it is my hands and face that get cold the most.

I love walking during a snowfall too. Great picture. Glad you got your walk in.
Jodi Stone says
Gosh I love that walk!! I think it stems from walking with my grandfather as a young child, I really could wander the woods all day long and be quite content. 🙂
