A little over a week ago I agreed to do a review of MrChewy.com. Mr. Chewy is a website where you can order dog and cat food and treats and have it delivered to your door.
Of course I didn’t agree to do it for nothing. In exchange for my honest review of the website I get a gift certificate for $50 to use on the website, which I in turn will pass on to you. We’ll get to the how you can win in a minute because truthfully, I’m still working that out.
I sat down last Saturday to check out the website and then I wanted to kick myself. I feed raw. What the heck was I thinking? I don’t buy bag dog food so how can I review it?
Then I became a little creative. I called my sister and asked her about the food she feeds her dogs. Her little Bandit is on a limited ingredient food. I also went to Sara’s store and checked out prices of her dog food so I would have some comparisons.
First what I liked.
MrChewy.com has free shipping for orders over $49 and if the order is less than $49, it is a flat shipping fee of $4.95. All orders are shipped UPS and should be received in 1 to 2 business days.
In my opinion MrChewy offers good quality foods and treats. The website makes it very easy to find what you are looking for. Once you get to the website you can click on Dog Food, you then get a variety of options as to what kind of dog food. You can search by brand, form, life-stage or speciality. They carry grain-free, gluten-free, natural and organic dog foods. It works in the same manner for cat food and treats.
I compared prices for Taste of the Wild, Blue Buffalo and Natural Balance. In most instances MrChewy was $3 to $4 less per bag in all sizes. Which can save a significant amount of money if you are qualified for the free shipping. Even if you don’t qualify for free shipping, depending on where you get your food and how far you travel and factoring in the price of gas, it may still be a good savings to you.
They also sell cat litter and puppy training pads.
The flea and tick area is a little light, as they only sell Frontline, and they have nothing natural in the flea and tick categories.
MrChewy also has a referral program you can sign up for, when any of you order from MrChewy and use this code AUNT9209 you will automatically receive 10% off your first order AND when you sign up for a MrChewy account, MrChewy will donate $10 to Best Friends Animal Society! How cool is that?
But of course, me being me, there had to be something I didn’t like about MrChewy.com.
Our little cat, Bob had a urinary blockage and can only eat a good quality, non-fish wet food. Personally I feed him Wellness and I fluctuate between a beef chicken, chicken or turkey. On MrChewy the Wellness only averages out to be about 15 cents cheaper per can and you have to buy by the case. I usually buy about 12 cans at a time, but in three different flavors. So that was a negative for me.
MrChewy has an 800 number with operators available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. They also have an online chat.
I felt if I was going to give a proper review I should at least check out their customer service, so I clicked online chat. Within a minute I had someone on the other end. My question was this, “Is your shipping done by weight or is it a flat rate (in case you don’t qualify for free shipping?)
I waited. After five minutes I said, Hello (with the person’s name)? And I waited. Meanwhile I decided to click the “learn more” link under the free shipping ad and that is where I found the $4.95 flat rate information. but I left the window up anyway because I wanted to see how long it took.
It took about 10 minutes before the person came back with my answer. Of course they apologized for the wait and I let them know I had already found the information and that I was simply checking their service for a website review I was doing for my blog. They apologized again and that as they say, was that.
So there you have my review of MrChewy.
Now for the fun part. I’m going to give away the $50 gift certificate to one of you. The contest will be open for one week and will end at midnight on February 8th. I will choose the winner using random.com.
Here’s how you enter, I’ve told you some of the crazy stories that my dogs (well mostly Delilah) have done over the years. In the comment section tell me the craziest thing your dog has ever done. Don’t worry, if your dog has never done anything crazy, you can leave me a comment telling me the sweetest thing your dog has every done, or something your dog does to make you smile. If you don’t have a dog, then you can feel free to pass the coupon code on to someone you know. Sound fair? Fun?
I can’t wait to hear what you all have to say.
Book update is the same, time has been short so I haven’t worked on the book, but I have been mulling things over in my head and I’ve also been doing a little research as well. I hope to write tomorrow!

On Mr. Chewy Taste of the Wilds costs over $10 more then we pay locally. I figure they must roll the shipping into the cost. 🙂
(btw be careful running contests and promoting advertising on a free wordpress blog because they have rules about it. I’m not sure I understand them completely, so if you haven’t checked the rules, make sure your contest is OK. Would not want them to suspend your blog. :))

Are you kidding me, you get TOTW for that cheap? We don’t get it that cheap!
Ok, I will be careful, I hope I don’t get into trouble for this.

Our trainer tried it in his kennel. $25.00 a bag pallet price. (Nice mark up, huh?)

So I was trying to think of a funny story about my Foxy girl to enter this contest with, but I couldn’t think of anything. You know that I talk about my dog constantly, so I’m surprised myself that I’m currently speechless 😉
So I decided to share a sweet story about her. I’ve been really sick this week with a cold and staying in bed all day. Today, I had a horrible migraine on top of the cold. As I was laying in bed, with my head stuffed in the pillow, Foxy tried to cuddle up with me. I told her, “no Foxy, mommy has a horrible headache.” She then shimmied her way to the top of the bed, and rested her head on top of mine. It was SO cute, like she was trying to make me feel better. And the thing is, it did help! Her head laying on mine was just the amount of pressure that I needed. I quickly fell asleep 🙂

I just love Mr. Chewy. I think it is well worth checking out. I know that I can save money using it. I asked them about being able to buy MIXED cases of canned foods.. and they are working on that. You will also save on the TAX.
I was lucky enough to have already won a Mr. Chewy giveaway, so I will allow someone else to try and win.

I’ll try for the gift certificate: When I was growing up we had an amazing German Shepard named Schnitzel. We called her Schnitz. Dad brought her home from the bar one night, she fit in the palm of his hand. My poor mother was less than thrilled but my ‘pack’ [sibs] were overjoyed to have our first dog. Schnitzy grew into an enormous, gorgoeous dog very quickly. She was so powerful, if she spotted a cat while on a walk on leash, she could drag a 10 year old girl off her feet across a gravel driveway [I still have the scars!] Schnitz thought she really was a human sister in our ‘pack’ – we were her siblings and we felt the same about her. One day a neighbor that Schnitz had known from day one came over to play in the house on one of our numerous snowbound days in Buffalo, NY. My little brother Jimmy was about 5 or 6. The neighbor kid playfully raised a plastic bat over Jimmy’s head, as kids do. Schnitz came out of a sleep off the floor in seconds, and thrust between Jimmy and the neighbor, barking hysterically. We’d never seen her do anything like that before, it was amazing! And she never lunged as if to bite the kid, just put her body between them and let that kid know in no uncertain terms that there was no way she was letting that kid harm her fellow ‘cub’. She really won my heart that day, as if I didn’t already love her ‘like a sister’! You never get over your ‘first’ whether it’s a dog, a lover, or a child! Schnitzy will never leave my heart!

What a generous give-away! Someone else mentioned Mr. Chewy and I looked at the website and cost of food–It was comparable to what I’m getting it for here in Virginia–So it probably just depends on the market that you’re in. Just as a side note, I’d like to say that I’ve thought of just finding some place that will ‘auto-ship’ since I buy the same food almost all the time…
Anyway, what’s the craziest thing my dog has ever done…I have so many things to choose from, but will pick one from my memory of my beloved Rudi that passed away in August…You might recall that she was a real wild-child and got into EVERYTHING. I came home one day to find dark red all over the kitchen floor. I just knew someone was bleeding. It was all over the carpet, and it trailed up the steps–When I got to my bedroom, I literally gasped when I saw dark red all over my bedspread, and Rudi there with it all over her. Before I could say anything, she jumped off the bed on the other side of it and grabbed something and came to me vocalizing, wagging her tail and so proud of herself that she’d enjoyed a whole box of black cherry jello….That crazy, crazy dog…I miss her every day…

My mom’s dog was such a sweetheart (he passed away last summer). He used to cuddle up with my mom when she watched TV. I miss him a lot.

I have 2 dogs and they are doing crazy things all the time! But I think the one that sticks out in my mind is they way that they jump at each other and play.As they are both little dogs{less then 10 pounds} and they jump at each other like they are so tough with their teeth out..LOL

Missed your contest while I was on hiatus! Guess I should enter yours too. 🙂
Back before we had Meadow, I used to give the dog’s a Buster Cube to keep them busy, Toby would knock the food out, and Leah would follow him around, eating it. (Which ones smarter?) One day they were doing this, and soon I noticed the house was quiet. I found Leah lying in the kitchen, but no Toby. I looked for him – twice – and couldn’t find him. (Mind you, we have a 650 sq foot home). Nick came in the house from outside, and I asked if Toby was with him. Nope. Started to panic, searched the house a third time, and noticed the cat staring over the edge of the bed. Bent down for a closer look and first saw the Buster Cube lying on the floor by the headboard, and then saw saw two eyes staring out at me from under it. Toby had squeezed himself into that area somehow and gotten stuck. Nick actually had to take the headboard apart to remove him. Why he didn’t bark for help, I have no idea?!

My dog keeps getting herself locked in the closet where we keep the dog food up on a shelf. She likes to check the floor for fallen pieces and inevitable someone in the family will walk by and push the door shut not knowing she’s in there! Luckily we notice pretty quickly if she’s not around and we know the first place to check.
