One of the things I love most about living in New England is the change of seasons.
Something I’ve noticed lately is how the change of seasons can make something familiar seem unfamiliar.
I was looking around at the field today and was thinking how different it looks now then it did just a few weeks ago.
Most of the leaves have fallen now and the landscape looks so barren.
The winter storm we experienced three weeks ago also changed the landscape. Leaves, branches and trees have all come down changing the woods and the way we walk. The leaves completely hide the paths we carved with we our feet as we traveled the woods through the spring, summer and early fall months, they also cover rocks and stumps and make the ground slippery beneath our feet.
I find myself really having to pay attention to the trail markings, and being aware of which way I am heading when I have to step off the trail to avoid some debris.
What about you, have you ever had something you were very familiar with change with the seasons?

The forest around our cabin really changes with the seasons. In the summer, you cannot get through some of the thick brush. But in the fall, before there is too much snow, you can forge a path.
Your cabin sounds wonderful. I’ve noticed that too, it is much easier to carve our own path now, with the leaves all down, much harder to do in the summer when everything is full and thick.
I see familiar things change with light and shadows and with their scents and with the breeze and with my mood 🙂
We have different seasons in northern California. Winter doesn’t come until late November and Spring starts in February. I hibernate between fall and spring so I’m not sure what happens then. But the almond blossoms are the sign of spring.
Actually Misty didn’t write the above. She loves the wet winter weather.
The forest we walk through just blocks away from our house also looks very different this time of year – and not just because we are now walking in the dark. Back when Shiva was more reactive, I used to prefer the winter as I could see through the trees to tell if someone was heading toward us. Now I kind of miss the green.
