Since I had no power Saturday morning I took the dogs for a long walk to help fill my time.
I mentioned to Hubby after the walk, “Branches and limbs continue to fall up there; I know this because I am clearing and moving what I can as I notice them.”
Hubby said, “I’m sure there are, it’s been very windy lately.” His brows furrowed “I wonder how the deer fared?”
I shook my head quickly back and forth, “I don’t know, I wonder where they go?”
Yesterday power was back on so I took the dogs for a long walk so they would be good and tired so I could clean. 🙂
I put their fluorescent vests on because I was planning on taking them on a less traveled (by us anyway) trail.
There is one area where there are deer trails, and you can manage to wind your way through this denser area if you have to, normally I stay clear of it unless my hiking buddy is with me. I prefer to stay on the well traveled paths. 🙂 Sampson normally pays pretty close attention to this dense area, his head is high with his ears alert.
Since Delilah is attached to me by the 30 footer, she doesn’t get the opportunity to run off nearly as much as she would like.
Normally they are spotting chipmunks and squirrels, I know this because they typically don’t go very far and tend to stop and sniff right around a tree base or a rock.
Yesterday Sampson snapped to attention and dashed off into the woods; normally I let him get a bit of a run then call him back, but he wasn’t coming; then I saw the white tail of the deer. Delilah and I waited on the path, with me calling him intermittently until he came back.
A short time later he took off again in about the same spot and I thought things were cool until I heard the sound of something large scrambling through the brush, and there was another flash of white tail.
Today on our walk Sampson chased a deer again, in a different spot. I think we are safe in telling Hubby that at least one deer survived Alfred in our neck of the woods. 😉

Your deer is (are) certainly giving Sampson a workout.
Be careful out there. It is archery season right now.

LOL he comes back all out of breath….then he wants to lie in puddles to cool off.
Is it bow season? I was going to check the websites to see when the season started.

That Sampson is a hunter! Think he would survive well on his own in the wild (should the world ever come to an end lol)? Bailey likes hunting those deer too.
Jodi Stone says
I’m not sure he could survive on his own! Delilah could, but I’m not sure about him. Don’t let Bailey get too close, a deer could do some serious damage!

There aren’t any deer in the forest near my home Jodi but in Georgia’s mountains there are still bear and wolves. I have enough trouble with stray dogs!
Jodi Stone says
OMD, are you close to the mountains? Do you ever have a bear or wolf come down the mountain?
We have random bear sitings, but not normally wolves. Although a Bobcat was hit by a car in CT not too long ago. 🙁
Stay safe.

Deer have a way of hunkering down in ravines and such in bad weather. They probably found a nice warm spot. 🙂
Do be careful during deer hunting season. I wish I could say all hunters are careful, but sadly that is not always the case. Plus once the deer are in the rut, they can be mean to anything chasing them.

Thanks for the advice, trust me it is not something I encourage! Yesterday I told him he’s going on the other 30 footer just to keep him from chasing the damn deer!!

Glad to hear the Bambis and their moms survived the bad weather! They’re not as dependent on electricity as you are, remember. 🙂
Jodi Stone says
Man I didn’t realize exactly HOW dependent I was/am! LOL

Sounds like Sampson is having fun! Be safe out there 🙂
