We got called into work today to assess the power situation and low and behold when we got there, we had power!
It felt so good to be doing something normal again. When I left work at 4:15 to come and take the dogs for their walk; the tree clearing had begun on the street leading to our house. A HUGE tree came down during the storm and bisected the street, forcing cars to drive underneath it. I was too afraid to drive under the tree so I drove the long way around. But tonight YAY the road was cleared.
The electric company is saying we should have power back by midnight Sunday. It is still a ways off, but I am thrilled to have a general idea.
My sister had us over for dinner and I thought I would take advantage of my niece’s computer and upload some pictures of our make-shift living arrangements.
This is the futon mattress where Sampson and I (and sometimes Delilah and Bob) are sleeping. Even on this mattress Sampson has the majority of the sleeping area and I am clinging to the edge. 🙂
Our camp grill, where we make coffee every morning and until my sister took pity on us, where we cooked our evening meals.
Once the coffee has been consumed, the pot is washed out and filled with water; we then place it on the fireplace insert along with the tea pot so we have hot water for tea or dishes.
This is the inverter Hubby has. It runs off a car battery and has a place for two plugs. One plug is used to run the blower in the fireplace insert and the other is to recharge cell phones, or run the laptop for games or movies.
Well that’s all I have time for right now, I have to go home and feed the puppies.
Thanks again for all your thoughts and well wishes, we appreciate them.

Gotta love how the bed is in front of the fire place. Enjoy!

Last night both dogs got the cozy warm bed on the floor; Hubby and I got both couches. 🙂

It is like camping inside. 🙂 You are really making the best of a crummy situation.
When we were kids my parents had a cottage and it had no heat, (or water in the winter). All we had for heat was the fireplace so we put the mattresses in front of the fireplace just like you did. Your picture is a bit of a flashback for me. 🙂
Hope they are wrong and your power is back much sooner than Sunday!

Isn’t it funny how simple things, whether it be sight, sound or smell can take us back?
I told Hubby this is my idea of camping; still a bit of civilization (no tent) but using our survival instincts.

Thank goodness for the fireplace and camp grill. Hope the electic is on much sooner than they say.
Jodi Stone says
We do too Misty, but it is very bad here.

That’s roughing it! The fireplace looks beautiful though. Hope you have been experiencing some coziness amidst the tedium.
Jodi Stone says
It is fairly cozy, but not appreciated at this point! LOL

you are one resourceful woman and I give you props for being so efficient through this 🙂 it would be hard for me to rough it 🙂 Hang in there and glad you are safe and everyone is ok.
Jodi Stone says
Kari,
How would that affect your port? Do you have a special hygiene protocol you must follow? I can’t imagine it would be easy!

Glad to hear that there is light at the end of the tunnel 🙂

Well at least you have power somewhere!! And that does look like camping inside 🙂 Hope the power comes on soon and you’re back to civilization 😛

My friend in Pennsylvania just got her power back on after having lost it for 4 days–I’m sending lots of ‘electric thoughts’ that ALL the comforts of home will return quickly!! It does look comfy though and that you’ve made the best of ‘the worst!’

@ Bassas @ KAS @ Kim, thank you all. We are back up and running and happy to be!!
