One of the challenges at Blog Paws (I’ve lost track of what number challenge we are on) is to join a forum and start……foruming?
I make no bones about my challenges with technology, I mean I have a twitter account for both Sampson and myself but I very rarely tweet, mostly because I don’t know what to tweet. In fact, I’m following a blog that is teaching me about twitter. :-0
Now I’ve heard of forums, but never joined, read or used one. So I posed the question to fellow challenge participants for suggestions of forums. I joined two, Discuss Dogs and I can’t remember the other one (but I think it is about labs.) 🙁
What I love about Blogville is how supportive and generous everyone is in sharing their knowledge and encouraging others to succeed. So I’m throwing this out to you.
I ‘introduced’ myself at Discuss Dogs and I read a couple of comments and I’m flummoxed, what do you write/chat about on forums, can anyone explain this to me?
Do you use forums? What forums do you like/read? Is there a forum for beginners? 😉

I think I need to spend some time learning some of these things! Thanks for your input.

LOL a forum for beginners. That would be a good idea. I do participate in a couple of forums having nothing to do with dogs, (can you believe it???). They are private forums and we have known each other for years at this point so it is really just an easy way for friends to chat about a common interest. Oh wait, I think I am a member of Broadway World forum which is open, but I haven’t posted there in years. 🙂
Anyway, I would say if you are interested in a topic…ask a question, or just make a comment. It is no different than commenting on blogs.

I can’t believe it!! That sounds cool though, my daughters are starting some kind of friends club which I think is similar. It must be nice to have someone you are comfortable with.
I think I will spend some time checking it out this weekend. Thanks for the info.

I do use a forum, for another interest of mine (that of leading a childfree lifestyle). I’ve used them before on other topics I wanted to delve into. I do enjoy how they encourage open discussion and allow diverse users to share diverse viewpoints in a safe environment. Like in our dog blog community, people seem very willing to share and support each other.
It seems that people post when they have a question about something specific–like you could ask what people do to train a reliable recall, or on a different forum you could ask how people drive more traffic to their blogs. I find them useful–there are so many occasions where I have a burning question and wish I had someone to sound off on it with; there is generally a forum out there for any burning question one might have.

That is excellent information Kirsten, My biggest concern would be to be picked on because my opinion was different from someone elses. I have had that happen on facebook. 🙁
I will ask those two questions and I thank you for weighing in.

I use forums, both are Chessie forums (go figure…lol). One I do use regularly, lately that is, and most of the time I just read what others are discussing but I have asked questions a few times to see what others opinions are and commented on posts. The other one I never use, ha I don’t even remember my password. I find the forums a little easier for open discussion than facebook, but yes they can be very intimidating at first.
Like 2 Brown Dawgs and Kristen suggested just go ahead and ask a question and go from there. I think it’s like everything else new in life we try, it’s intimidating at first but the more we do it the more comfortable we get. Take your time and just enjoy, if you don’t like the ones you joined move on to others until you find the one that fits.
Good Luck foruming 🙂

Thanks Misty, I’m not surprised you are on Chessie forums, we all gravitate to what we love, right?
I will be trying it, first I need to find a forum for “I need more time.” LOL

I haven’t used forums, but I think they can be useful if you find the right one, with knowledgeable people who can answer your questions and engage in productive discussions. I agree, being ganged up because of a difference of opinion is not much fun.

I stood up for myself, but it still turned me off. I will need to at least try the forum, but so far I’ve found other things to do. 😉
