Some things I want to double back on this week.
31 Days to a Better Blog – The first task to 31 DBBB is to come up with an elevator pitch. I just can’t seem to pull this one together, but I will continue to work on it and as soon as I love it, I will share it here.
I Have To Laugh – One of the main reasons I wrote this post was to share a story that had happened that morning, and then I totally forgot! After I had fed the dogs their breakfasts that morning I was clearing up the dishes before I left for work. I was standing at the sink and Delilah was next to me licking the floor. A lightweight plastic container I use for storing their green beans slipped off the wet counter and bounced off Delilah’s back. Delilah flinched slightly in surprise, but never missing a beat starting licking the inside of the container! I did laugh at that.
Many of you wrote in to let me know that you have dogs that you’ve had from puppies who are still big food hounds and that Delilah may just be exhibiting the typical lab signs. I appreciate with all my heart your words of comfort and encouragement.
There was something else though, that I couldn’t figure out how to work into that post and that is the scars that Delilah carries on her feet and legs.
These scars were much brighter and harsher when she first came to live with us; time has healed them as well as they will be. I did ask the vet if she had an idea of what they might be from, but there really is no way of knowing.
Whatever Delilah has dealt with in her past she seems to have overcome. She is for all her zaniness a really good dog and I feel blessed to have her in my life even though she does make me a bit crazy at times.
I hope you had a great week and an awesome weekend!

Perhaps it is BEST to NOT know what caused the scars.
Have a super duper weekend.

You have a great weekend too Frankie!! Thanks for your comment, most days I feel the same way.

I have to agree with Frankie Furter. I know that sometimes when I find out certain things I tend to dwell on them!

Oops clicked post to soon…Have a Great weekend!

I would probably dwell on it and become obsessed about finding the freak who did it and on and on…..it wouldn’t be a good thing!
You have a great weekend too!!

She’s in excellent hands now Jodi, and you know dogs don’t have long [intricate] memories, just like we don’t remember alot before age 3. Take comfort that you have gone above and beyond to erase those memories, it’s just the behaviors she learned in the past that you are working against, probably not the actual memories! She’s a lucky lucky puppy that you adopted her!

Thanks Kathy, I appreciate the kind words. I think she remembers though because she will growl and move sometimes when you make a sudden move near her feet. 🙁

i shudder to think what might have caused the scars. there are terrible people out there. My aunt’s rescued lab mix was the sweetest thing. She was also very BIG and tough looking. And, any time my aunt got out the broom to sweep around the house, this BIG tough farm dog would cower in the corner. people do terrible things, but Delilah is well out of it 🙂

It just makes me sick to think about it. People are horrible and I know whatever she went through is not the worst things some animals go through.

I am just reading this now. Hope you had a nice weekend.
Not sure what would have caused those scars, but it is possible that it was some sort of uncared for skin issue or allergy. Sometimes excessive licking can cause that kind of scar. But as your vet says, there is no way to know and she has a wonderful home now!

Thank you, it helps to think it could be something along those lines as opposed to something more sinister.
