The last month or so I’ve watched a number of you post your seven links challenge, I read all of them popping back to the posts you felt fit the categories presented. Part of the challenge was to present the seven links challenge to seven other bloggers. Each time I read a post that didn’t have my name in it, I breathed a sigh of relief.
Recently my luck ran out and I was challenged by Just Ramblin’ to the seven links. I admit, as I read the blogs participating in the challenge I did think back to some of my favorite posts, and there were a couple that really stood out for me as fitting a particular category, but I really wanted to do this blog justice, so I went back and skimmed through all my posts.
The first two months I was voicing my opinion about a variety of things; I did not consider those, I only chose posts which were about dogs because the blog is Life With Sampson and Delilah.
I was in the same boat as many of you who have already taken this challenge because there were certain categories that I could not choose just one post. So here is what I came up.
Most Beautiful Post – this was hard for me, I had two that really resonate in my heart. Happy Birthday Sampson, and Delilah’s story, on Sampson’s birthday I tried to articulate in a letter, the love and gratitude I have for my Heart Dog, and Delilah’s story was very emotional for me to write.
Most Popular Post – Poor Punkin according to WordPress statistics the day I posted this, was the day I had the most traffic on my website. Indeed that post had 28 comments (half of which were mine) which was the most comments I’d ever had. Pawm Etiquette had more comments but because it was a blog party, I expected more traffic.
Most controversial post – Delilah Stone Role Model I have very little controversy on this blog this was the closest I could come to finding controversy. An anonymous person posted that I didn’t have my facts correct, which ticked me off. I want people to respond and I have no problem if you disagree with what I say, but own your words and be respectful. After that comment, I finally set about making rules for my blog.
Most helpful post – this was one of those categories that I couldn’t decide upon. I’m really adamant that my dogs have a tag on them at all times The Importance of Tags explained my position. I also thought New Experiences was beneficial in regards to trying to prepare your dogs for something they haven’t experienced before and Medications, Vaccinations and Vacations explained how my dogs medical records are organized and why.
Post you are most proud of – It’s all about perspective, I thought this was creative because it told the story from the perspective of all involved. It encouraged me to think outside the box see the situation from the animal’s eyes.
Post that didn’t get the attention it deserved – The Legacy of Michael Vick, I fully expected flack from this post, in fact I so concerned it would sound like I was taking Michael Vick’s side that I called my daughter and read her the post before clicking “publish.” I tweaked and re-wrote and surprisingly had only 6 comments on the post. I was certain I was going to have some negative comments or at least someone debating against me, but it was published with very few responses.
Post whose success surprised me – If you read a post and leave a comment I am surprised (well mostly excited) so any post that receives a comment is a success.
Part of the challenge is to pass the challenge on to seven other blogs; since I know many of you have already done this I will not ask you to do it again. HOWEVER, if you would like to take the seven link challenge I am passing it along to you!
It is an interesting journey looking back through your posts and figuring out what fits where.
What do you think of my choices? Would you have chosen something different?
Misty Shores Chesapeakes says
Very well chosen Jodi!
I enjoyed reading some of them for the first time and others again.
I also keep a binder with all my dogs info in it for just such occasions.
P.S. I read it twice and could not for the life of me see what anonymous was referring too!!
Jodi Stone says
Thanks Misty, there were a lot of posts and it was hard to choose. I had no idea what they were referring to either. I would have much prefered they said, Ann is not the intake coordinator Julie is (it’s not true, I’m just saying) tell me what is incorrect and I will fix it, I’m not perfect.
The binder is important, in an emergency you might remember certain things. I am glad you keep binders for them. 🙂

I like the posts that you selected. I had read some and others were before I started following your blog. Glad I was able to read some of your older posts. I thought your “Most Controversial” post was great. I do think that people who take in rescue dogs have many of those same issues (and worse, sadly I know of worse issues).

It was really hard!
When I discover a blog I don’t always go back and read older posts, (maybe just the past few days) so it is nice to see what they were talking about before you started reading.
I’m glad you liked the posts, I did enjoy looking back at some of them.

I had a really tough time with this challenge and when I did it, I ended up just picking at random because I was tired of going through every single post to find the right one! I didn’t think I had that many but apparently they add up over the years. :-p
Anyway, I loved your role model post about Delilah as I can relate to it so well. The two of you have become such a great team and could be an inspiration for anyone.
I also really liked your post about Michael Vick. I have left that subject completely alone on my blog because I just don’t think I can add to the conversation. But I think you made an excellent point. It’s kind of what I have been trying to tell people about the local pet store chain that has finally stopped selling dogs and cats. Maybe in my community still refuse to shop there because they don’t feel the chain made the decision based on morals. They still can’t forgive them for the sins of the past. However, I think now is the time to support them, to let them know that they are not going to lose money by making the right choice. It doesn’t matter why they stopped, it just matters that they did.
Jodi Stone says
Exactly Kristine! If we don’t support them for the choice they made (regardless of why they made it) then they feel they can’t win and will go back to selling puppies again!
Life is short and if we can save however many puppies they are selling a year from that fate then that is a WIN!!
We just have to keep telling people and maybe it will sink in.
Thank you for the comment!

Some wonderful choices, Jodi. And I think the reason your post about Michael Vick didn’t generate lots of heat is because it was obviously written with lots of thought.
BTW, I suspect the “anonymous” criticism was a piece of spam that slipped through. Vague comments that don’t seem to address anything are typical of spam. Are you using the Akismet spam filter through WordPress? If you aren’t, and want some help setting it up, let me know.
It will save you from nasty spam and also from the weird “you blog is so nice good content. Buy real estate investment today” comments as well.

It was very hard to do. I appreciate your comment about the Michael Vick blog, I was so so proud of that and thought it was so well written and had very little comments. 🙁 I appreciate your thoughts.
I am using the spam thing and it does catch all the porn stuff that comes through and it sits in the spam until I delete it or it dies of its own accord. It didn’t even dawn on me it might be spam. (See what a ditz I am) hehehe
