As you know (unless you live under a rock) the east coast is being battered by a huge hurricane. I would ask you to say a prayer for our friend Bonnie and Cody the Rescued Greyhound who soldiered it out in Emerald Isle, North Carolina. Yesterday the family lost contact with her, so we pray they are ok.
After watching last night’s weather forecast, I decided the best place for us to spend the night was hunkered down in the scrapbook room.
As expected the dogs were slightly confused and a bit unsettled because we weren’t in our room and we weren’t in our bed!
I told Sampson it was ok, this is where we are sleeping, so he snagged his spot on the futon with Hubby.:-)
Delilah and I positioned ourselves on the mattress on the floor, she was lying down but in the alert position, she couldn’t relax. Sampson and Hubby were up on the futon, when Sampson sat up. He usually does this when he is ready to jump off the bed and onto the floor. He also will do it when he is too warm in the bed.
Hubby and I both spoke to them and almost simultaneously they switched position. Delilah moving up next to Hubby and Sampson moving down next to me. Within a minute both of them were settled down and relaxed, and they stayed that way all night. 🙂
I got up a couple of times in the night and peeked out the windows, but everything seemed ok.
Delilah let me stay in bed until 6:55, did you read that? 6:55! Delilah never lets us stay in bed that late!
We got up to rain and lots of wind. From my perch on the couch I can watch the pouring rain and swaying trees through the front window. So far we still have power. (Knock on wood.)
The worst is coming within the next three or four hours.

Thanks Dr. Rayya, the weatherman says we will see sun later today. The worst is coming in the next hour and a half.

Maybe you should always sleep in that room Jodi!! Get some extra sleep!!
Jodi Stone says
Dawn, I didn’t say I slept! I stayed in bed, but I didn’t sleep all that well. 🙁

Hope all is well on your end. Prayers for you and your family!
Jodi Stone says
Thank you, we made it through just fine, although some areas were hit extremely hard. We appreciate all the thoughts and prayers!
Pamela says
Hope you came through everything ok. We decided to leave BlogPaws early to beat the storm home.
I’m very thankful for my pup who doesn’t mind story weather.
Jodi Stone says
I was wondering if you would leave early or not, sort of sad that you had to leave, but glad you are safe. Yes a pup who doesn’t mind the storms always makes for an easier human. Sometimes Sampson runs out and barks at the thunder. 😉

Been out of touch all weekend. Hope you are doing OK.
Jodi Stone says
We are fine, thank you so much for thinking about us.
Kirsten Stade says
Did you have fun hunkered down? Sounds kind of like a fun slumber party:)
We spent a dramatic night camping out by the coast–my boyfriend thought it would be exciting! Exciting it was, and fortunately we were safe too…though the dogs were definitely a bit nervous about all those crazy hurricane noises battering around the van!

OMG Kirsten, that’s crazy!! I was afraid to leave my house.
Kristine says
I hope you made it through everything okay with minimal trouble! The storm looked huge on the radar. It hit here in Halifax about 2 am this morning. Because our water up here is so much colder it wasn’t nearly so powerful. I don’t think we got a lot of rain. Just some strong winds that will likely hang on for the rest of the day. The power didn’t even go out so I am stuck at work now. 😛 I guess I should be grateful as it could have been a lot more serious. I don’t think our dog even noticed anything unusual. She was just as crazy on our morning walk.
Jodi Stone says
Glad you made through Kristine! It was HUGE, but we made it. The dogs were great and really we had no issues, I kind of feel guilty saying that because so many people are without power now and have suffered much loss.
You know it’s good when the dog’s behavior doesn’t change. 😉

We’ve never gone through a hurricane and really hope everyone comes out ok. When we moved to California many years ago, everyone was worried about us and the infamous earthquakes. We don’t live on a fault line but have experienced several of them. At least they are over in a minute or two and don’t last the hours that hurricanes and tornadoes sometimes do.
Jodi Stone says
OMG Jan, we have had minor tremors up this way, but I don’t know what we would do with big ones! Even though they are over quickly they can do the same if not more damage!
Thank you for thinking of us, we are all ok.
Big Al says
Not sure if you were there to comfort the dogs or vice versa. There’s something about a big furry animal next to you that says everything’s gong to be OK, n’est ce pas?
Jodi Stone says
Agreed Big Al. How did you fare? How was Queenie?
Big Al says
We did fine. Only the outer bands reached us. For Queenie, compared to the earthquake, this was a piece of cake.
rumpydog says
Glad all is well with you guys. Love your blog!

Thank you for stopping by! We hope you managed well if you were in the hurricane’s path.
