Bob the cat has been with us going on two and a half months now. Naturally as with any addition to a household there are some adjustments.
Both dogs (at different times) have snapped at the cat when I am preparing their meals. We rectified this by feeding the cat first.
Sometimes the dogs chase the cat, I tried to rectify this by telling the dogs no; that is until I noticed that sometimes for no reason whatsoever, the cat swipes at the dogs. Hmmmm I decided then that the gloves were off, if the dogs chase the cat or the cat swipes at the dogs, then it will have to play out the way nature intended.
My big boy (all 91 pounds of him) won’t walk past the cat, if the cat is in the doorway. I need to shoo the cat away and then Sampson will walk thru.
Sometimes the cat will walk into our bedroom and meow and the dogs will shoot off the bed and chase the cat out; sometimes they don’t respond to the cat at all.
Then last night it happened. The cat came into the bedroom where I was blogging and the dogs were snoozing and……..
I tried from my seat (just to the right of Bob’s bum) to get a picture of all three of them on the bed.
Finally I had to get up to take a decent (not great) picture.
Bob was so happy to be up on the bed with the three of us, he was looking adoringly at Delilah and purring.
Today he swiped at Sampson.
Oy!

Everyone can indeed get along. There is room for all in this world…if only all could make room for each other. : ) Love the photos. : )

But that would mean people would have to think about someone other than themselves. 🙁

Awwww… comfy bed napping time trumps all, even dog-cat antagonism 🙂

Apparently a truce but only for that time!

I have to separate my ferrets from Nautica bc I dont trust her. One time the ferrets where out and about and I had to quickly throw Nautica in her crate. When I came back I realized that I locked her inthere with one of the ferrets. It wasnt the blood bath i imagined but a snooze fest. phew! animals can be surprising

Good for Nautica, sometimes our pets can really surprise us!
I would worry about Delilah. She loves to chase the chipmunks and squirrels so I imagine it would be the same with a ferret. Somehow I don’t imagine she has snoozing in mind. 🙁

Oh, too cute! [Did Delilah even know that Bob was on the bed behind her? hmmmmmmm]
Jodi says
She did kind of look at him, but then went back to snoozing. Surprisingly she is the one who tolerates him best.

Cute picture! They sound just like siblings. Some days I love my sister and other days we swipe at each other 😉

LOL, I never thought of it that way!

Integration can be a challenge but if my high prey drive dog can learn to get along with a cat, almost any dog can!
We had our cat long before we adopted Shiva. The first few months were pretty stressful. I didn’t like to ever leave them alone in a room together. We still have a gate between our up and downstairs just to give the cat his space if he needs it. Honestly, what worked best for us, was just leaving them to work it out themselves. After months of constantly interupting any interaction, I decided to just see how far they would take it. Amazingly, not very. Now Shiva is usually pretty good at recognizing the cat’s boundaries. When she doesn’t he is very good at putting her in her place!
I’d love to see them sleeping together like that. Maybe one day…

I’m sure it will happen! Look how far Shiva has already come.
We have a gate too, that keeps them out of the litterbox and keeps Delilah from eating Bob’s food.
It’s not like there haven’t been cats in the house before, just Bob was never one for mingling.
I am letting nature take it’s course. 🙂
